Whitbread /Volvo Historic Reunion
The Volvo Ocean Race 2005/2006 started in November. We took this
opportunity to organize a Whitbread reunion during the Rotterdam VOR
Stopover in June 2006.
While searching on the Internet to find all 114 yachts that
participated in one of the eigth races, we realised how much has
changed since the first race in 1973. And what a unique opportunity
it must be to see these remarkable changes to design, building,
equipment, sails and crewing. 33 Years of racing brought together. Of
these 114 yachts we found around 70 yachts. Most yachts changed name
and owner several times. A few yachts sunk or are in a sad condition.
And 60 yachts are still missing.
If you know a Whitbread/Volvo Yacht
or if you would like to know more about the yachts we traced don't
hesitate to mail us.
